In today's accommodation industry, photography holds unprecedented significance. As guests increasingly depend on the internet to select their accommodations, visual media has become an essential marketing tool. It is therefore unsurprising that over 90% of hotel guests consider photography and other visual content beneficial when choosing a hotel, according to data from Atmosphere Research Group.
Henry Harteveldt, a travel analyst and president of Atmosphere Research Group, notes: “Hotels, unlike airlines, are inherently visual products. When I mention an ‘economy seat,’ you can easily envision it. However, the term ‘three-star hotel’ is more subjective. What is the decor style? How does the bathroom appear? While location and price are important, photography is crucial for hotels to distinguish themselves. It also helps consumers better understand the differences between room types.”
RISE IN OCCUPANCY Katerina Petropoulou, Founder and Managing Director at Hotelising, a revenue management company for hotels in Greece, agrees that updated, high-resolution images are vital to a hotel’s success. She saw improved results after revamping the online photography for a villa in Mykonos. “After publishing the new photos, we raised the selling prices by 20%,” she says. “At the end of the season, not only did we have a higher average daily rate, but also a rise in occupancy, giving a turnover of over 35%.”

A BETTER ONLINE APPEARANCE
Investing in professional hotel photography enhances your online presence and highlights the unique features of your hotel. When potential guests are planning their trips and searching for accommodations, they typically spend only 1-15 seconds browsing various websites. On platforms like booking.com, Expedia, or other online booking sites, the average time a person spends viewing a hotel is merely 7 seconds. During this brief period, they decide whether to continue exploring the hotel or move on to another option. Therefore, it is crucial that your images appear professional and capture attention effectively.

PHOTOS OUTPERFORM CONTENT
People generally focus on compelling images before engaging with written content. While written content is important, a strong image will attract attention to your hotel listing more effectively than paragraphs of text. Nowadays, customers prefer to explore hotels through a gallery of images.
